UK alternative rocker Lion releases her debut single “Self Control” via multi-platinum producers Linda Perry & Kerry Brown’s label, We Are Hear for the U.S. & Canada. We Are Hear partnered with Fiction Records for a global release of the single and the forthcoming album.
“Self Control”, which channels White Stripes and AM-era Arctic Monkeys via the ’70s-inflected rock of Jefferson Airplane, is the playful and self-assured debut from Lion. The single sees Lion’s ferocious, Janis Joplin-esque rasp of a voice acknowledge her own inability to deal with confrontation and offering a ‘sorry not sorry’ apology.
The single comes off the back of a busy start to the year for Lion. Before releasing any official music, she’s already garnering support from her powerful live sets with support slots for Albert Hammond Jnr, The Vaccines, Isaac Gracie, as well as recently announced tour with GIRLI.
She debuted her music in the United States to an overflowing crowd at this year’s SXSW in Austin, Texas for the We Are Hear showcase at The Townsend in addition to an acoustic performance at The W Hotel official showcase Second Play Stage.<
Linda Perry tapped Lion’s song ‘Joyride’ to be featured on the soundtrack for the documentary Served Like A Girl, which also includes never-before-heard music from Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Pat Benatar, and more.
